Crons Enters Nutrition Space
Upstart apparel brands don't usually see sports nutrition as a natural brand extension.
Unless you're Pat Cavanaugh, that is.
The former Pitt point guard who is chief executive of Crons, a team apparel manufacturer, has a brother who is an executive at GNC and a mother who is a nutritionist.
And while the company's core business of making uniforms will remain its bread and butter, Cavanaugh says that he thinks his protein bar business could be a $1 million business in 2011 —a bold prediction for a company that did roughly $2 million in sales last year.

I think he has a pretty good chance of being successful. Right now there are a lot of brands for protein bars and drinks but there isn't one brand that dominates the market. It is possible that his could be the brand that takes control. I don't think there is really any advantage on other companies outside of that he has experience in the sports industry.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, really of any bars really well, but Myoplex does a good job with its commercials on ESPN. They have a good place to advertise on with ESPN and their commercials aren't annoying. They need to do a better job with endorsements though. Their main guy has been like Brady Quinn who pretty much did nothing in the NFL.

I feel like they will not be overly successful but not just passed by either. I feel like they will have their 15 minutes of fame, then just take the shelf with the other bars that are already out there. I think they might be a slight compeition to Power Bar, but then again, not really because it once again is just another nutrition bar. It might not taste good or it might have the other obstacles take a heavy toll on it, like the article says.
ReplyDeleteI think Power Bar is the best marketed one out there, although I do not eat them nor do I really pay attention to them, I do see some athletes munching on those the most. I don't know why they do well, it might be because they taste good or that is what everyone finds the most benefit from. Also, the Luna bars have been pretty popular around my dance studio, like I said, I haven't had one myself, but I see them float around.
I don't think that they should go into the Protein Bar industry if they are apparel. Even though they would catch more attention with their name, there are already many products such as Power Bar who have a very well known name. The protein bar industry has more competition than you'd think. I also don't think that they would have an edge because I know a lot of people who switch protein bars often or look for recommendations and most people say that the older ones and the ones that are there on the shelves longer tend to have more of an edge than the newer ones.
ReplyDeleteOne nutrition bar is Power Bar and there is another one (I don't remember the name) that does well with marketing. This is because I mostly hear through word of mouth from other athletes about Power Bar. Word of mouth is probably the best communication so they have an edge. I don't usually find nutrition bars marketing much on television. I usually find that word of the mouth is their strongest point in the marketing industry.

I think that Cron's chance of their bar becoming popular is very likely. Because, they picked flavors that young people would like- and hopefully it isn't a typical protein bar that taste like a bunch of vitamins. But, I also don't know if it will make that big of a hit since there are so many protein bars out there. They'll have to market themselves in a huge way in order to really get noticed.
ReplyDeleteI think that Cliff bars are good at marketing themselves because they are almost in all of the sports stores. I think that Kashi is starting to become very popular as well. I think that they are so popular because you can pretty much find it anywhere. Kashi bars and Cliff bars don't have that really bad vitamin taste either.

There is a posibility that Cron will become successful. The brand already makes uniforms for schools and other apparel. There are many protein ba brands that already compete with each other and it gives consumers variety. Game ready can really dominate the protein bar business.
ReplyDeleteCrons already been recognized by their apparel production and if people like the uniforms then they will take a chance on their bars. Other brands always have a famous athlete endorse them to catch the viewers eye. A brand like amp and their energy drink are doing well with their commercials. The commercials are really cool and it shows athletes getting amped up.

I think that the Cron protein bar will be successful in the industry. This is a good way to make some profits for the company. Since there are a lot of energy drinks and sport drinks, the Come Ready Performance bar will do good. People will but it because it is a good company. I think they do have an edge over other companies because their brand is popular.
ReplyDeleteThe best energy bar in my opinion is Power Bar. They are a really good company and a lot of people like the energy bar. I think they do so well because they have a lot of people in the company and they have people to stand behind them. I don't think there are any other Energy Bars getting on the rise.
i think that this company has a pretty good chance at being successful with this product. Companies that already purchase that companies products will more likely buy their new nuetrition bar as well. i think they have a competitive edge over power bar becuase it is cheaper and because people are always willing to try new products. i think it will be successful but i don't think they will profit 1 million the first year.

Crons has a chance to become the super power for nutritional protein bars. There really is'nt a main leader in the protein bar business. If their product is liked by an athlete, and they get an endorsement deal then they would have a nice start to a new product. I dont think a new product that's different than the business it's starting in will make $1 million the first year. If it grows right, it could easily quadrouple the revenue for Crons in 2 or 3 years. It will definetly take some time. Most of the population has a trial and error process when it comes to excercise. They will buy what looks best, and they will try it, but if it does'nt meet their criteria, they will try a new bar.
ReplyDeleteI personally have not seen any commercials or billboards for any type of power/protein/energy bar at all. I dont think any of these companies is advertising well, and their target market is not correct. Adults do excercise when they have the time but most teenagers excercise every day whether by choice or not. If a company made four different bars, one for each sex for ages 25+, and one for each sex for ages 14-24 than they would have a strong business easily. Each bar would be more efficient towards its own market, and therefore become liked by more people. It would still take time to get recognized. Advertise that right and make a decent product and you got yourself a super power.

I think they do have a good chance of becoming successful. I say this because, even though they weren't known through there sporting gear they now have a chance which could progress into there sporting brand being known.
ReplyDeleteI dont eat nutrition bars..at all. I'm allergic so I wouldnt know. But i know of the nutrition company sunbelt.
I think that crons bar has a good chance of being on top. They have a variety of flavors that kids and others will enjoy. I just dont see them being the head of the game anytime soon. Theirs a possibility of them being their but they would have to work extra hard and take many risks that could just blow their whole company out.
ReplyDeleteI think that power bar is the best bar out their. Even though i dont eat protein bars i see power bar posters and etc.. They market their brand so well thats why they are very well known. The way that power bar is going i dont think that anyone will top them any time soon. If they do i will be stunned.
I think that opening new product lines is a good idea for any business. For Crons, the protein bar can really be successfula and help their company. Having just started, however, they will have to do a lot of catchup work in the marketing area to reach the level of competitors like PowerBar and Myoplex. If Crons does build consumer loyalty and people like what thet pay for, then they can definitely be successful in this venture.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't know very much about power bars, not even who the real top brands are. I see commercials sometimes, but I still know more about cricket than power bar brands. I think PowerBar is the top notch brand, and I guess its because they market themselves well. As far as the sports industry goes, I think energy bars are one of the smallest moneymakers, not that many people use them.
Cron's protein bars have a potential of dominating the face of nutritional bars. I believe that Cron's makes a wise choice by targeting high schools and colleges that their company is already involved with. The pricing is very good and will surely attract high school and college athletes. However nutritional bars have never been the big thing, so I find it hard to believe that Cron's will be able to achieve their goal of 1 million dollars in 2011.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion the protein bars that are most successful are the ones sold at store like GNC. GNC offers many different types of protein bars from different grams of protein to different flavors. Regular GNC customers are the ones that working out on a regular basis so they are making good business for GNC. The protein bars that will do well are usually the ones sold to athletes that are working out all the time. Having different flavors also helps as their is more variety for customers to choose from.
I have mixed feelings about their chances of being successful. I can see it working out and not working out. The companies main source of business is sports apparel. I can see their wanting to expand into the sports bar world but it can be risky. There are so many other brands of sports bars out there and Cron's bar could possibly just another spot on the shelf. They could be successful and really make a name for themselves in the apparel and sports bar world.
ReplyDeleteI think that the most marketable aspect of the bar is the price vs protein i mean it has a lot of grams of protein and its generally alot cheaper then most others. If they could just make a name for themselves via advertising and communication on tv and in reality then they could be successful.
I think it would be a success if they put out there protein bars. costumers might think that there protein might not work and might want to try something new.i think they might have a chance in competing with a company like power bar, because people love to try new things. I've never tried power bar or anything but if people think that if people are not satisfied with there results they might want something better.
ReplyDeletein my opinion i think that power bar might be the best for nutrition bars. the way they market themselves on TV and the people they sponsor.i dont think that people are really able to compare themselves to power bar that is probably why other new nutrition bars can come out and have a chance to be the top nutrion bar

i think this bar is gonnna be good because they have an athlete in charge of production. he would know how the bar should work and what it should do.this should surpass all other companies who dont have an ex athlete in charge of production.
ReplyDeletei think power bar is doing a good job of letting its work do the talkingg for itself. it hasnt really been shown to fail against other companies.it has held its on against most of the major companies and has worked for me aswell so i like it.it tastes goood and it actually works for me. i want to see if this new come ready bar works like i think it should.

I dont think that much people would eat the come ready performance protien bar because people dont really eat protiens bars every body drinks protien shakes. And i havnt seen an ad for this product yet so how are they going to make it marketable without even having an advertisement out or a endorsement.
ReplyDeleteA nutrition bar that markets it self the best and probably the most successful is Nutrigram everyone knows about it and it tastes good and its healthy for you so why wouldnt you buy it.I think a company that is maybe catching up is chewy bars they do a good job to.
I dont think Crons has a good chance of becoming successful. They dont have an edge on other companies. They are actually at a disadvantage because the other companies have been around and that allows people to try them and if they work, recommend them to others. Pat Cavanaugh is wrong in thinking high school athletes will spend more than 2 dollars on a power bar when they could go get twice the amount of food with the same amount of money from a vending machine or McDonalds. They wont be very successful.
ReplyDeletePower bar in my opinion is the best energy bar. This is because i know nothing about energy bars but i know the name Power Bar so they must be doing something right. They have the market in a stranglehold. I dont see any other company moving in on their success. Especially not an apparel company

I think that if the product is good then people will buy it. Also it is a new change to the Protein bar industry and it could succeed. I think they do because people get tired of the same product every single time and i guess they will like the new product. I think htte name is good and it is a good marketing theme for people that see the same name every time they buy a power bar.
ReplyDeleteI think that the best part of a nutrituion bar should not be the name, it should be how god the bar is. Also customers in my opinion dont really care about the name to much but instead the quality of the bar. I think that not alot of people use power bars because they too expensive to keep buying every time you want one. ALso the contain alot of calories so they might not be as nutritious as the customers think.

i think that the protein bar will be succesful. most of the proteins bar are not really succesfull becouse most of them dont really take effect as much as other product. their is alot of competion out their special with nutriens and energy related. if this product does a good job on making their product succesfull they will have their fame and most likely become succesful.

I feel about Cron's chances of being successful with the Come Ready Performance Protein Bars is a good idea. I feel that way because of the players will now have some type of protein bar to eat before they play the sport they love. To me, they don't have a big enough edge like Power Bar but within a few years they might be up there like Power Bar.

i feel that crons chances are fairly good. hes focused his target market on younger athletes mostly in high school. hes got two flavors that younger athletes would really enjoy, cookies and cream and cake batter. power bars target older and more mature male and female athletes. and power bar flavors are more common flavors because older men and women wont usually eat those flavors.
