Woods says he's coming back to win...
Holds news conference that reveals very little
While acknowledging he made some "incredibly poor decisions" in his personal life, Tiger Woods still thinks he can win the Masters -- even coming back from a five-month layoff.
"Nothing's changed," Woods said Monday during an extraordinary 35-minute news conference at Augusta National. "I'm going to go out there and try to win this thing." In his first full-fledged session with the media since his life fell apart, Woods entered the interview room with a smile on his face and stopped to hug one of the green-jacketed club members, Ron Townsend.
Woods again took full blame for his personal failings, but stopped short of providing many new details. He wouldn't say why he entered rehab for 45 days nor would he go into specifics about his infamous Thanksgiving night car crash, other than to say it took five stitches to close a lip wound.

I think Tiger has handle this situation well considering the predicament that he was in. I think that he shouldn't have lied in the beginning because it just made everything look worse. Once the problem surfaced he should have just put everything on the table and admitted his problem. I think his agent did a phenominal job handling the situation and i would have done it the same way. I don't neccessarily believe the hype of this being a problem of the mind but that was the only way i could see spinning it.
ReplyDeleteIn this sports and entertainment industry image is just as important as performance. So many great athletes loose their hall of fame image because of domestic problems. It seems as if that is all the media feens for. they want something bad to happen to these players and entertainers just so their is a story to right about. A good public image paves the way for more money. This is an opportunity to be in the public eye through endorsements and things of that nature. Its not always about getting the win its about how you look when your winning.

Tiger Woods did things that no man should be proud of but at the end of the day everyone needs to realize that everyone makes mistakes. Tiger Woods was an athlete that everyone turn too in time of need, when they were looking for a professional to believe in. I believe that's why this was such a big deal, because he was the perfect role model and he messed up big time, and it made everything worse. I feel like without his agent to be there by his side, he probably would have continued to deny the situation. His agent did a phenominal job when it came to getting Tiger's image back.
ReplyDeleteWhen an athlete has success its never enough for the public. 1st comes success, then comes character. The public likes a winner, but they LOVE the winner who wins it the right way. Image is huge in the sports and entertainment world. Tiger Woods will never get his image back, but hopefully one day he will get back the respect that he has lost from the world.

I think Tiger Woods handled this situation in a safe way, with help from his agent. His agent made it so that the public eye was convinced about Woods having a serious problem with himself and his many occurrences with infidelity. Knowing that he has a problem, it is easier for the media and public to realize that it is not actually all his fault and he probably could not control this problem. There is some space for sympathy and understanding to his mischievous deeds. If I were his agent I would have advised him in the same way because he is my responsibility as a client and it is my job to ensure his career and the way he is represented.
ReplyDeleteAn athlete or an entertainer’s image is important to maintain because if they are not represented in a good way, they lose a lot of possible business and their careers do not last very long. Image matters a lot in an athlete or entertainer’s success because their biggest supporters are other companies and their fans. Without them, they have nothing to look forward to in their careers and it’s the public and media that justify who they think the athlete or entertainer is and how valuable they are to their industry or team. Everyone wants to be looked at as some sort of legend or someone t remember after their careers are over. When someone’s image is not positive, no one gives them credit for anything that they have done or accomplished.

I believe that Tiger did very well in his situation. He just shouldn't have lied and he wouldnt have had any problems. If I was his agent I wouldn't have handled the situation any differently than his agent has done.Overall Tiger did an outstandable job to maintain his image.
ReplyDeleteAn athletes image is very important to his career. If you have a good image people start respecting you and also have good communication skills. It's important to maintain a good image because it reflects you and your attitude of a player. It's important maintain a good image because you never what deals you can recieve such as endorsements from Nike,Adidas, etc.

ifeel tiger has kinda handled the situation as a gentalman. hes been a big boy i guess you can say. he know he did wrong so he admitted to that. even thow he wanted to act like a kid at first in act childish i guess now yo can say he has grown up. if i was his agent i would be very stricted on tiger. reason because i kno tiger is worth a lot in always will be.
ReplyDeleteif an athletes image is horrible there is no point in him being one. if if you not gonna be presentable you mine as well not show up if you feel what im saying. image matters 75 percent for every athlete.
In my opinion, Tiger has handled this situation very well. If I was his agent, i would have him do the same thing. He has made a public apology and answered personal questions in interviews. He also has a new commercial out. All of these things express how deeply sorry he is and it is a good way of getting back in the favor the public's eye.
ReplyDeleteIt is very important for athletes to keep a good image. So many people look up to these people and hold them as role models. In their eyes, what they do is right, so it is important to do the right thing. Depending on who you are, it also might have an effect on your success. Letting a negative image discourage you and or bring you down has happenned before and is sure to happen again. Overall, if you do the right thing all the time no matter what, you won't have to worry about any of this.

I feel that Tiger Woods souldnt have lied to start off with. When u are at the top of a sport there are allways people trying to get you. Tiger was at the top and still is of the golf world and others try to put him down. If he would have just came out and said that he did what he did then maybe he wouldnt have had to miss 5 months of his golf season. If I was his agent I would have told him to come out and say it because many people where goin to come out and say that he did do it. And that he lied and that makes it worst.
ReplyDeleteThe image of an athlete is one of the most important things when it comes to sports. If an athlete is a great player but cant keep anything striaght out side of the sport not many people will like them. An athlete that is a great player and can do the right things will help to make them well liked. The more an athlete is liked the better change they have of player longer in life as well on a better team.

I think Woods has handled himself and this sticky situation well considering the position that he was in. I am not sure of how many poeple can come out and admit they were wrong, to millions of people like that it takes a real man. It deffinately seems like he was taking the proper steps to get back in to the game again. If I was his agent I would probably handle everything the same way, but instead of the written apology also have people fire questions at him. I mean he eventually he did meet with a reporter, and he finally answered questions but it took alittle while. Im not sure if there is much more he could do, but I know he is headed in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteIt is very important in my opinion to mantain a good clean image. Especially for someone like Woods he had everything going for him, beautiful wife, kids, and sports. He was the highest paid athlete, and at the top of his game. Even the face of a sport, but that all pretty muched changed. He still has his kids and the sports, but how do you think his kids are going to feel when they grow up and find out what their dad did? This incident was deffinately an image buster, im not sure if he could ever get on the same status that he was on, well it would deffinately take a while. Tiger's image was a huge part of his succeee, and it probably will continue to be. It may just take him alittle longer to get back on that top spot.

I think that tiger handled the situation very well. I think that he shouldnt have lied to everyone at the beginning, but since then he has done everything he can to make up for what he has done. I think his agent did a great job and if he hadn't done what he did then tiger might not have actually come clean and his image would have gotten worse. I would do everything exactly the same.
ReplyDeleteI think that if a person is very successful that they still need to have character. If they dont then people will not like them as much and they wont be as successful in the long run. i think that tiger has done a good job of improving his image since this incident, but people will never see him the same way ever again.
Tiger has really accepted the fact that he did wrong and he knows that. He is taking responsibilty for his actions and has taken it really well that he needs to change his image after what had happened. if i were his agent i would hae told the same thing becuase its the most logical thing to do. Adultery is not a crime in terms of the law but marriage is a religous thing that should not be taken lightly. the problem is that, that Tiger did that. he didn't take it seriously for the past 5 and a half years with his wife. once he was caught he tried to deny it. thats when the agent should have stepped in and said that you can't lie and its gonna come out eventually.
ReplyDeleteAn entertainers image is one of the things that keeps them in the news and in the monds of the fans. if someone has a torn image, then they are gonna fade away into the dark until they are either dead or replenish the image. A good image is what helps an entertainer obtain sponsors and a fan basis. i believe that their image rreally does matter if they make more money or not. Michael had his own shoe line with Nike before he was caught then he returns this year back to Atlanta and is making a lot less money than he was before. same goes for any athlete or entertainer who does wrong and losses sponsors, they have to try to rebuild their reputation. the problem is that everyone is going to remember what happend that one time.
I think Tiger Woods handled the situation okay. Tiger Woods lying in the beginning was a bad move on his part because it just made matters worse. He should have just stepped up and just admitted the fact. I think his agent did a great job on handiling the situation i dont think their was a better way of doing it. I would have done the same thing if i were Tiger Woods agent.
ReplyDeleteThe importance of an athlete's or entertainer's image is important. It is so important to maintain a good image because you can be a role model for young kids and you can make good money. Image really does matter in an athlete's or entertainers success because it defines you.
