The Economic Impact of a New Stadium...
As we learn about economics, one of the main topics we will focus on is the economic impact of building a new stadium. In the past few years, teams like the Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, and Philadelphia Phillies, have all benefited from a new stadium. In addition, the cities that these teams play in, have also experienced the economic impact of stadium construction.
In Oregon, there is a on-going campaign for an expansion MLB team and a new stadium for the team to play in.

This article talks about how they are trying to get a satdium built in Oregon, which could prove to be a good thing. Not only will it bring in money from hosting other events, but people will deffinately come to watch games. A real good thing is that an MLB stadium would require more than 1,500 full-time construction jobs. That allone is just to build it which is positive. Thats not even encluding the additional 2,000 permanent jobs to go along with everything else after it is already constructed. For example the COlorado Rockies have 10 percent of their attendees being, tourists who stay at least one night in a Colorado hotel. If the same thing would happen in Oregon it wouldnt be anything but success.
ReplyDeleteI think it is good that cities are building and makine new things. Just because it brings in more money for that specific place and it is an opportunity for jobs to open up. They say "Baseball is America's favorite past time," with that being said people would travel from pretty far to see their team. I know that when National's Stadium was built, it helped that area because before it was somewhat rough, so it cleaned up alittle. Ofcourse there are also cons like space and traffic, there are people that will disagree. But its all good because overall it would be a good investment for Oregon

The rate of demand will be high thus increasing the amount of revenue that both the team and the government will get from fans expenditure. The state will also receive a large amount of property tax for the new stadium.

It is absolutely a wonderful thing because lowers the rate of unemployment in the society in which the stadium is located. A society with plenty of jobs will definitely have a low rate of crime. It will also benefit the team in terms of revenue received at the end of their fiscal period.

Also, if you are a state like Oregon and you dont have your own team, then a new stadium will allow you to stay instate to see a game. A new stadium also brings in a lot of money for the state becuase people start spending money on merchandise, not only at the game but also in store where they live. The state will also make a lot of money in taxes from the new stadium.
Economics in the state oregon will skyrocket because of the adding of the stadium. While adding a successful team to any proffesional league may be challenging. But because of the fan base and strength of the state i think they will do just fine. In the beginning after the stadium has taken root the revenue will hit the roof if it is advertised properly. This will take care of the huge property taxes that the they will get hit with from the state of oregon.
ReplyDeleteI think building and constructing new programs in cities is fantastic in the sense of the economy. New attractions cause for more money. the more money a state has the better the economy flurishes and the cycle continues to get better because of it. The only backlash that I see is that the cities become overpopulated with teams and areas that can support the new growth are often looked over because they don't hold the correct name of city or location. I think if these new growths were better and more widly spread there would a stronger economy everywhere.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I think that building new sports and entertainment facilities increases the value of a particular industry and its growth. It benefits in providing people with jobs, entertainment, experience, and not to mention tourist attraction. Tourist attraction simply results in more revenue for the facility and other businesses that may be in the surrounding area of the facility, such as hotels and car rentals. The cities’ economies are improving and changes it substantially. Facilities provided by the city are also good because others focus on what the state provides, causing other cities to compete in having better facilities or attractions. New successes are created for the city and industry.

They say that 227,000 new overnight tourist visits to Oregon will be generated each year. 10% of the tourist will spend at least one night in a hotel. This is because more and more poeple want to come see the team play or just say that they have been to the staduim. Its a good thing because they will make more money. I believe that adding a stadium in Portland, Oregon, would ofcourse lose money at first, but in the long run i believe it will have a huge net gross profit. Although Oregon is a secluded state and does not have a huge population, the fact that the Trailblazers are very successful is a good outlook on what could happen to the MLB organization that comes to Portland. The downside is the fact that there is a team in Seattle and San frisico, which are relatively close to Portland. This could take away from the profit that they would recieve.

This is always a good idea, and i think alot of stadiums should be renewed. Although there are certain stadiums that should stay the way they are now, there is also many stadiums that need renovations. Its a good thing because when you build something new you get to build things that attract people such as, big screens, seat warmers, cup holders, etc. Also, building a new stadium or sport facility can help other by giving them jobs. People like to see new things, not just the same thing over and over again it gets boring. another reason why it is a good thing is that you already know what the people in the state like and dislike so its a good advantage.
