March Madness Unleashes a Nike vs. Adidas Fashion Competition: May the Best Sneaker Win

Ready for March Madness? How about sneaker madness? That’s the tournament without network television coverage or office betting pools that plays out every year as avid collectors debate the merits of swooshes and stripes and just have to get their hands — err, feet — in the latest shoes sported by the NCAA basketball teams. The brackets are up at SneakerNews.com.
The pick this year? The more old school the better. Sole Collector, a print magazine devoted to sneaker style, has a weekly poll that indicates Jordan VI Retros are the shoe of choice among die-hard aficionados (emphasis on the retro here).

  1. I believe that Nike has a better hold on the overall sneaker market because of the wide variety of sports that they cover. Nike carries everything from golf to hockey. Nike was not always like this though because the company was founded in the 1970s. Adidas seemed to have a grip on the soccer world but as Billy said in his current event that Nike is catching up quickly. I think that Adidas is still putting up a good fight and maybe this NBA deal will give them more power in the shoe market because competition benefits the customer.

I think that Nike does a better job of advertising their shoes because they have LeBron James and Kobe Bryant advertising their new stuff. Nike takes risks with athletes such as Kobe Bryant and Mike Vick and those risks sometimes pay off. They always seem to have the best players in each sport endorsing their products. I think the biggest thing that Nike has going for them in basketball is the Jordan brand. I ahve recently seen advertisements with Dwight Howard in them wearing Adidas. This push by Adidas could help their credibility as a company.

  2. I think that Nike will do better the Addidas because over all it is what people are wearing. In my opinion no one really wears Addidas. Plus Nike has a lot of the NCAA wearing their shoe. Addidas just happened to stuble into the NCAA because they bought Reebok. Nike also has a reputation of being a good shoe for basketball.
I fell like Nike does a better job marketing there shoe cause when you go to March Madness games you will see teams actually wearing the shoe. Addidas may have a contract with the NBA but no one knows that. Nike puts their name out there in commercials and people know that they are the shoe to pick when you want to play basketball. Over all I think Nike is going to win. They are a bigger brand whos is out there more then Addidas is.

  3. The sneaker market today i think has 3 main companies reebok, nike, and adidas. Nike and Adias are the biggest ones we have in the market. But i think Nike is better then Adias in market because air jordan is Nike and jordans in basketball are the best shoes around. Adias has nice shoes, but i think adias is more soccer oriented then basketball, because adias makes soccer jerseys and i have heard they make the best soccer cleats out their. So its like Nike- basketball Reebok- Football Adias- Soccer.

I think again Nike markets its stuff a lot better then Adias by far, because Nika always has the primer athletes in their commericals. Also Air Jordan because it is the biggest shoe market out their today, people always want a new pair of basketball shoes to get and Air Jordan look the niciest and they are always reliable. Also i see more athletes with nike so i think that shows its marketing value higher. However, these two shoe companies market their product very well in different ways.

  4. When it comes to choosing a winner of the two I think Adidas has a better hold on the marketing value of sneakers. When you think of Adidas you think of shoes, and its usually good quality and comfortable. The generation has shifted from just piling on logos and brand names to worrying about what feels as good as it looks. In the article it tended to favor Adidas more for footwear rather than Nike. Adidas also bought Reebok so it adds to their stretch of footwear and provides more a more variety along with comfort.
Like I mentioned before Adidas is more in correlation on behalf of shoes everywhere. Nike however I feel is better at advertising their products period, because more people tend to reply on Nike rather than Adidas. Nonetheless when it comes to shoes Adidas puts on quit a show, the product and merchandise from Nike is very well known and depended upon. The two companies may compete for top notch but they are both amply qualified to the both where they can outshine one another. All in all Adidas does the better job marketing their shoes because there’s a bigger tendency to buy Adidas shoes when compared to Nike, but Nike does a better job advertising all of their products which is why it’s the more dependable and reliable company, both industries are capital producing powerhouses.

  5. I feel as though Nike has a a better hold on the shoe market with the age group given. I know all of my friends would much rather wear nike then Adidas just because of Nike's overall reputation. The sneaker brand is what the "youth" of America has grown up with and many feel like it will continue to be like that for years to come. Nike is a household name when you think sneakers and for that reason, it will continue to take control of the shoe market.

Again, I think that Nike does a much better job at marketing because of what I last said in the previous paragraph.. "when you think nike, you think sneakers". It has taken a long time to get to that point with the company and they have really earned their keep globally. Nike has various ways of marketing their brand. They have sponsored MANY winning and well-watched teams, they have had sucsess in the NikeID promotion and they have also got major atheletes to back up their product, which is a major reason the brand appeals so much to the customer.

  6. The company that I feel has a better hold on the overall sneaker market for ages 12-35 is Adidas. This is because in the article it mentioned how Adidas after purchasing Reebok in 2006, it signed an eleven-year partnership deals with the NBA to become the league’s official uniform and apparel supplier. That was a smart maneuver on Adidas’ behalf because now they have control over the NBA’s apparel which gives them an upper hand over Nike. By branding themselves with the NBA, the fans for this league range from all age groups including the one mentioned earlier. On top of that, Adidas made a power move last year to grab a portion of the NCAA basketball market along with its attendant sneaker collectors, launching a new campaign called “March is the Brotherhood” featuring schools of the top teams. This was able to promote their company even more, and reach out to a younger crowd since it involves colleges, who have a large percentage of their students attending the game.

In my opinion, I feel that despite what the article states that Nike does a better job at marketing their sneakers. I say this because since I am an avid basketball fan, I have yet to recognize that the shoes and the apparel that the basketball players are wearing were Adidas merchandise. I always just assumed it was Nike because they continuously have commercials and ads out promoting their products. I don’t see that many Adidas commercials being played during basketball games on television and I’m pretty sure that most people, like myself, did not know that Adidas controls the NBA’s apparel. Also, in the sports shoe stores such as Foot Locker, have more Nike advertisements’ and posters up in their stores which only benefits Nike not Adidas which is quite sad since they’ve spent over 400 million dollars trying different ways to promote their product. All in all, I feel that even though Nike doesn’t control the apparel at these sporting games, they are still doing a great job at marketing their sneakers.

  7. I feel that both Nike and Adidas both have an equal hold right now because of the equality they have in the market. The majority of players might be wearing Nike shoes but on their bodies they are wearing Adidas clothes. Each company has their own style of shoe that attracts a certain group of consumers, and this goes the same for Nike. The competition is equal right now between the to brands. I feel that sooner or later whoever comes out with the newest technology of shoe will dominate the shoe world, but for now its anyones game.
I think that Nike is doing a better job at marketing their sneakers because of the commercials on TV and ads in magazines. Adidas has not come out with any new commercial or ad that will attract the consumer. Nike is smart by advertising all the sports they sponsor in one commercial by getting the attention of all athletes all at once. Adidas needs to come up with something creative to challenge Nike in the television ad subject. In the soccer world Nike has signed contracts with all the best and popular players in the game. This brings more consumers in buying those products that thesxes athletes wear.

  8. Nike has and will be the most popular shoe company out there for a while. I feel like Nike has a better hold over the shoe market from ages 12-35. I tuink Nike could even be popular for some of the ages a little below 12 and a little after the age of 35. Nike has shoes ranging from cleats to running shoes, to just shoes you wear to show off, and also they sell fitness clothing. Because Nike has been around for so long and has such a wide variety of shoes they will hold the market for a while.
Nike and Addidas both do a very good job of marketing their shoes. Addidas and Nike both have taken their shoes and made some shoes that are old-school looking. Addidas and Nike both endorse their shoes, for example, Missy Elliot has the crazy commericals promoting Addidas shoes that I know will grab someones attention. However, Nike promotes their shoes by putting their apparel on really popular athletes.

  9. Nike has the better hold on the sneaker market. Nike sponsors many more teams than addidas. They have a wider grasp on sporting goods. Besides soccer, addidas isnt known for much else. They're advertisements arent nearly on the level that nike is.

I believe that Nike does a better job at marketing their sneakers as well. They sponosor various sports such as Football, Basketball, Baseball and even Lacrosse. Adiddas has yet to touch these areas. They need to really step up their game if they want to be known as a threat.

  10. I feel that Nike has the better chance selling shoes than Adidas. Nike has way more customers than Adidas. Polls have been put up and Nike wins all the time. Nike has better people endorsing their product then what Adidas has. But the only thing that can hurt Nike is the Tiger Woods accident.
I think Nike does a better job marketing their sneakers. They have more stores so that means more people can buy from them. Nike also has better shoes; Nike shoes look a lot cooler than Adidas stuff. Plus the biggest reason is Nike has way better sponsors. Nike has got Kobe and Lebron. Two of the biggest sports stars of today’s generation.

  11. As of now i believe that nike is controlling the majority of the sneaker market. adidas is not far behind, as it is now the supplier for the nba. nike has collage teams using there shoes. but nike is everywhere, everybody knows what nike is.
when i hear adidas, i think soccer and soccer equipment, past years i have seen adidas grow, and i notcied a large increase in baseball equipment. i think if adidas wants to continue to grow, its going to have to start advertising its large varity of items and sports. and nike, is going to have a hard time keeping up

  12. Nike and Adidas are both great shoes to wear. Football and basketball players wears those shoes. For Adidas, their are known for basketball only. Nike holds on the overall sneaker market for ages 12 - 35 because Nike has great advertisement (commercials), and a lot of people wear Nike shoes in today's world. When I go to a shoe story, I see the majority of the people in the store buying Nike shoes and accessories.

The Nike Co. sells their product by commercials, ads(posters on the street), and etc. I feel that the Nike industry does a better job at marketing their sneakers because, every time I turn on the t.v. I see the Nike commercials on the screen. Adidas use to be good but they had competitions like Nike, Reebok, and Under Armour. Nike is the best overall all in today's world.

  13. On the ages 12- 35 I think that nike has better hold. Nike is the only thing I really know. Nike is the shoe all my family wares. Also nike is somehow apart of Jordan so that just gives them another verity or people to like their shoes. Also Nkie has shoes by the players such as Lebron and Kobe. It also an old school thing my dad only likes nikes.nso I guess nike .

The company that does a better job marketing is nike. Because nike goes to work they have shoes after people. Steve nash has some nice shoes thy are ok looking . They are no lkobe or lebron I think they sell the most product. For the old heads I would say charles barkley younger kids also like them but older people like them because it’s the shoe they proly wanted but did not have enough money but now that they are grown up they can just buy them. One of my favorite the I had to buy would be flight posites.

  14. I feel Nike has a better hold on the overall sneaker market for ages 12 – 35 for many reasons. If you go into the foot Locker or Finish Line looking for the newest basketball shoe on the market, that shoe is most likely Nike. Why, because the two best basketball players in the world are both sponsored by Nike, Lebron James and Kobe Bryant. Michael Jordan is Nike too which is as you can see the most popular shoe amongst college basketball players. Basketball becoming a raising sport in the world is increasing the demand for basketball shoes, and Nike offers the best ones. People many just wear Nike even if not playing basketball because they want to be fresh.

Again Nike win at doing a better job of marketing their sneakers because they use the one p of marketing that appeals to teenagers, promotion. Endorsement deals is the type of promotion they use and putting Lebron, Kobe, and Jordan’s faces on the advertisement and incorporating their household names into the shoes sells the product. I see way more commercials for Nike on television than Addidas. Nike offers way wider range of shoes for all demographics. For the best marketing department, that sells the shoe in a more effective, goes to Nike.

  15. I believe that the Nike Company had a better hold on the community then Adidas. The reason being is Nike Company has a better variety of shoe selection. Also because a lot of famous players in the NBA are sponsored by Nike as well. Another reason Nike gets around the community better is they don’t only have basketball shoes; they also have very stylish shoes. I believe Adidas are just shoes made for sports mainly.
I think on the marketing side of it, it’s pretty even between the two advertising their product. Both products have a number of NBA players that are sponsored by their product. Nike kind of has the more veteran side of players, while Adidas has more of the younger, new players that were just introduced to the league. The only reason younger kids would want Adidas over Nike is because the younger players have more of an impact on the younger community. On the other hand Nike shoes are made better for more advance older players because a lot of the older players make their shoe to better their game, because their getting older.

  16. I think nike sells better than adidas. Nike has a better reputation than adidas. You almost never see athletes wearing adidas unless you play soccer. The people who wear nike the most are basketball players because they support nike the most.Nike will be coming up on top because it is a natural sport sneaker that goes well with any sport.

Nike has a better hold of people than adidas because more people wear nikes. I personally love the jordan brand but nike is a killer when it comes to sports. A lot of advertisements has an athlete wearing nike shoes and hardly any jordan or adidas. Nike has been a big supporter of sports for a while.

  17. I personally feelt aht Nike has a way better hold on the marketing scale than Adidas. i think that way because growing up, all i heard about was Nike. i didn't hear that much about Adidas so if i didn't hear that much about them, they must not be promoting the sneakers very well. All the athelets i see are always wearing Nike shoes, reaching from softball cleets to golf shoes. No matter the sport, Nike has the shoe. Which i find kinda funny.

On the otherhand, it seems like Nike is the sports shoe while Adidas is more of a "showing off" kind of shoe, because i wasn't awear of Adidas being a shoe you could play sports in. i think that sports wise, Nike wins, however Adidas would have to take the gold for advertising their shoes to the specific age rang of 12-35.

  18. I feel that Nike has a far better grasp on the sneaker industry than adidas. I feel that nike has such a grasp because they are competitive in every aspect of sports products. Though adidas has made many attempts to do the same, there are so few people who will state that they would rather be sporting an elite nike product that their favorite player wears. Though adidas has many athletes that sport their shoes as well, those athletes who wear them are not nearly the walking advertisements that Nike is.

I feel that nike does a far better job of advertising their products in every sport besides soccer. Nike has so many more commercials with the very best athletes wearing their shoe, besides in soccer. The majority of the best soccer players still support "All Day I Dream About Soccer."
