Can’t get enough of “Avatar”? James Cameron thinks so, hence the director is planning to re-release the film this summer. Reports said Cameron and 20th Century Fox officials are planning to re-release “Avatar” in mostly Imax theaters. Not only that, Cameron is reportedly also considering adding scenes that did not make the final cut.
“Avatar” had the monopoly of the Imax theaters for about three months since it was released but saw its take dwindle when Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” opened on March 5. Cameron had said earlier that he has up to 40 minutes of additional materials that can be easily included to a theatrical reissue or DVD release of “Avatar.” However, the director would probably limit additional scenes to about ten minutes in order to keep “Avatar” within the 170-minute limit for a movie to be shown in analog Imax theaters. The original version of “Avatar” is 160 minutes long.
“Avatar” has grossed $ 712.5 million domestically, while international earnings has reached $ 1.9 billion as of March 4. A 2D version of the film is expected to be released as early as next month while a 3D version on Blu-ray disc could come in fall.

I think that Avatar coming back to theatres this summer is a smart move. People talk about improving products and if you have the highest selling movie ever why wouldnt you make it better by adding more? People will want to see it because people wanted to see the original. Yes it is long but if the movie is good length doesnt matter. I think that people have not had enough. There can be more hype around Avatar by expanding ideas into toys, video games, and other merchandise. If a product works I think the company should try to push it as much as possible and in every form possible.
ReplyDeleteI have seen multiple television commercials for Avatar. I have also seen interviews with the cast and directors to promote their movies. I heard about this movie through word of mouth though the most. Everyone was saying that it was breaking records so I decided to go see it. I personally did not like it but I guess I am in the minority. I think Avatar could be exposed more by more forms of marketing and different products. They can come out Avatar toys and Avatar characters on cereal boxes. Whatever Avatar did, they are obviously doing it right.
I think that they shouldnt bring it back to the movie theaters beacuse everyone who wanted to see Avatar did. They just want to make more money they they already did. In my opinion James Cameron and Fox are just greedy for money. They shouldnt put it back in the theraters because other movies come out then and if they just want to make money they should just invest in making another block buster movie. And adding another 20 minutes to a already long movie isnt a good idea. The movie is already 160 minutes. No one wants to sit around for all that time.
ReplyDeleteI havent seen anymore marketing for avatar since the movie came out. When there was a lot of marketing being shown i saw a lot of commercails and advertisements for it. This relates to the 5p's because its is PROMOTION of the movie and trying to get people to go see it again. This also has to do with PRICE because Imax movies are slightly more pricey then regualr movies.

I personally never saw the movie Avatar, but its true when I heard of its success I was encouraged to see it, regardless I still wondered how a movie based on animation could have grossed so much. I think people have had enough, the movie is a sci-fi fantasy film. It’s not like the Dark Knight where its an action packed movie as well as suspenseful. The fact that its being released again could just be a hint of greediness on the directors and producers part. The fact that they are trying to add more to the film, is just poor marketing, you to a point are boring people by adding unneeded scenes to an already successful movie.
ReplyDeleteFrom a marketing prospective I think it’s a bad idea, the fact that the movie already made the money it did was outstanding but more money is a waste. The country is in a depression and once the hype for a movie is over, there’s no point in re-releasing it because that initial hype is gone, and people can easily go online and watch the movie without having to pay for anything. If this happened then the movies theaters will lose money for playing the film, as well as the producers for paying them to play the film. More than likely the film will sell millions once the DVD is out, but that again is after the Avatar hype dies down, right now its Alice in Wonderland and all those other movies that people want to see, to have to shove Avatar in their face again is poor marketing skills because people are drawn to new things. Avatar right now is a thing of the past in the movie world, its going to be remembered like the Titanic; however its initial impact is gone, and the film managers are wasting their time in attempts at releasing a already successful movie that more or less will not be making money in its summer release.

Avatar is a great movie. My thoughts about Avatar being released again are good. I think they should add 40 minutes to a 160 minute movie. Just because it was so good in theaters and it grossed so much money. I think if they don’t do it their making a big mistake. But they should just not release the same movie again because I know people who have seen the movie like 100 times.
ReplyDeleteAvatar has made lots of money and because of their promotion and just how good the movie is. They did lots of commercial to promote the movie. The movie was actually so popular that Ben Stiller showed up to the Oscars looking like a avatar person, anyways the most productive marketing thing they did was the product. The movie sold itself , the move was so good that people told people to watch it and they did.

In my opinion I don’t mind the fact that Avatar is being re-released in the summer. This is because, like myself, there are still people who have yet to see the movie. I don’t think people have had enough because even though “Avatar” has been out for a few months, people are still buying tickets to see the movie wherever it is showing. It’s a great time to release it in the summer, because the young movie watchers will be out of school, that way they can go see the movie whenever they want. To a certain extent I think that 40 minutes might be too much to add to an already long movie. I say this because when I asked my friends about “Avatar” they said it was very good but really long. But, I’m sure there are some avid “Avatar” movie watchers who would enjoy the extra 40 minutes, but I’m sure even if they don’t do that, they have the opportunity to go out to stores and buy the theatrical reissue of the movie. So all in all it’s a win-win situation for the movie.
ReplyDeleteThere has been a multitudinous amount of promotion for the movie “Avatar”. For instance, just recently, Avatar received huge publicity before the Oscars because they were a front runner in winning a bunch of awards. Even though the movie didn’t win best Picture, James Cameron’s movie was still publicized during that time frame and they didn’t even have to pay for that advertisement. Advertisements for Avatar vary from TV commercials to ads in a diverse group of magazines ranging from US Weekly to the basic Movie Magazines. On top of that, on television they have interviews with the actors which only highlight the movie and its accomplishments even more. Overall I think they are doing a great job at promoting their product and they sure are reaping the benefits in the end.

Avatar is coming back to the theaters this summer and i think it should come back for people that did not get a chance to see. Well i think people did not have enough of this movie because its the top grossing movie of all time, the titanic the former movie that was number one was played many times in theaters too. Adding another 40 minutes could be a little much but people want to see the extra scenes
ReplyDeletethat are added, i mean the lord of the rings movies were like 3-4 hrs long and people still sat and watched those films. If you think that this will be a long movie your crazy, 2 hours will go by fast if the person is entertained throughout that time, and with avatar people should be.
Avatar promoted the product really well by making it more demanded because of how many people who watched it. The movie can make money from the trailers it has before the movie actually begins, because since their is so many people out their that want to watch avatar that means many people are going to watch the movie trailers from that film. Also the 3-D aspect gives them a huge promotion rate because, 3-D is the new thing in film know, Avatar really gave 3-D its name and know i see so many films that says in 3-D. Also the pricing of the movie is up because of the 3-D affect but i have a feeling they will go up because demand is very high right know. All i have to say the producers are smart for the Movie Avatar.

I think it is a good idea to re-release the movie. Also by adding 40 minutes along to the movie you give people an incentive to see it. Avatar is the highest grossing movie of all time. Soo it would make sense for the director to want the public to see it again. He also is going to make a very high profit from this idea.
ReplyDeleteI have seen many dffrent ways Avatar has been advertised and marketed to the public. There are commercials, games, toys, t-shirts, mugs and many others that are made to put Avatar on the market. I think the best tool is a commercial, the commercials for Avatar are very good and are appealing. The 5 ps are used while marketing Avatar very well. The movie Avatar is a household name, and that is because the advertising directors have a good grasp of the 9 functions of marketing as well.

Personally, i've had enough of this "Avatar" movie. Considering i didn't see it in the first place, means that i defineitly don't want to see it up there again. I dont think that they should even let the movie come out a second time, but then again, if that means, making a profit off it, then be my guest, but i wont go and see the movie. I think that they should also consider the other movies that are supposed to be releasing soon around the time they want to re-release "Avatar" that way they can see whether which movie could bring in more profit; you don't want to re-release your movie if theres going to be a bigger movie coming out too!
ReplyDeleteI haven't really seen any marketing when it comes to the movie, "Avatar". I don't really watch TV that much to see any advertisements on the commercials or anything. The only thing i have to go by, are my friends talkin gabout going to see the movie. I of which, chose to stay home. When if comes to the five P's, the product would be the movie, Price was roughly around seven dollars, depending on where you went and saw the movie, and on and so on.

I think the re-release for the movie Avatar is a great idea. Although it wont make as much money as the intial release, the American people will still pay much attention and money for the movie. There are many people that probably didnt have the chance to watch it the first time, and others watched it in regular version but maybe this time they would like to watch it in Imax or 3D. They will be taking an experimental risk by re-releasing the movie. And if it works then other movie directors might do the same.
ReplyDeleteAvatar was advertised very well. I remember that as i watched television Avatar commercials would come one every 5 minutes on the same channel. I am one of the very few people that did not watch the movie. If given the opportunity this summer then I might decide to watch it but there are no promises because movies are too expensive these days. Avatar should lower its movie prices and possibly it will attract more audiences.
Avatar is coming back to theaters this summer because of its success with over 1.9 billion in sales. People have not had enough because there is two versions of the movie one in 2D and one in 3D. Adding another 40 minutes may ruin the movie because people have short attention spans. If they want to put another 40 minutes on then they should just put the footage on the DVD.
ReplyDeleteAvatar has used promotion by putting advertisements everywhere. The best promotion I’ve seen was a super bowl commercial which millions of people watch. They proclaimed themselves as the best movie of all time because of sales reaching such height. Place is important also because they put the movie in 3D IMAX theaters and as the article said had a monopoly for IMAX.

Avatar coming back in the movies is to much because people had enough of it especially me. But some people may like the movie, I just don't like it. In the business side of it, its good for them because, some people may want to see more of the Avatar. Avatar did win the Oscar for best picture. I believe that they should put less time in the second movie because people does not want to sit in a movie theaters for over 160 minutes.
ReplyDeleteThe movie Avatar was big before the movie came out. The people who worked for the movie did a good job selling their object through commercials, etc. My family and friends told me about this movie and they told is was going to be the best. I went ahead and went to see the movie, personal it was boring but this movie won the Oscar for best picture. So they did a good job to win the Oscar.

Avatar coming back into theaters, i think is a good idea, since it is the higest grossing film ever, we already know its going to continue to make lots more money. adding additional features and scenes to the movie will also pick up ne viewers of avatar, but also viewers of the original avatar. The movie for me was way too long and it did not keep me interested into the movie, so adding upto another 40 minutes making this movie over 3 hours long, will be touture.
ReplyDeletethere was alot of hype around the movies release, alot of commercials, telling about the film and creating a feeling that you have to see this film. i have seen online ads for avatar, there was avatar advertising everywhere. and it created a must see movie, that everyone was talking about.

I think putting the movie Avatar back in theaters is a great idea. Especially it coming out in the summer, kids is at the movies all the time. So, I don't think they'll make that much more money, but I do think they will expand on their gross already. With it coming back out it'll probably break the 2 billion dollar mark. I think some people will think it's doing too much to bring it back out, but the movie also has a lot of fans that will go see it. My opinion about the length is it wasn't long at all think it'll be better with the additional length.
ReplyDeleteI believe they did well by showing the preview of the movie. With the good previews I believe that's what really sells the movie. The reason I believe it sailed so well is from having a lot of action in the preview. There was also not just one preview, there were plenty to show how the actual movie is. So I think they advertisement work out well.

I think putting Avatar back in theatre is a fantastic idea. They really will make a lot of money off the movie because a lot of people really like the original version. There are fans of Avatar that won't mind watching the movie again. They are also adding more to the original version which is a great idea because if people like the first movie then they definately will like the second one. Nobody can get enough of Avatar. They can also promote this movie by putting the un-seen scenes as preview on television and create games and toys of the movie.
ReplyDeleteI think they did a good job promoting the movie the first time. They used previews, games, and toys to let people know about the movie. They could also put an Avatar toy in cereal boxes. I heard from my dad that the movie was good and I went to go see it. I thought it was good but it could have had more action in it. Whatever they are doing to sell the movie they are doing well because everyone wants to see this movie.

I think by bringing back movie Avatar to theaters this summer could be good and bad. I think it could be good in a way that since they're adding a few extra scenes are clips people will be interested in seeing it again. It could be bad because since it was such a long movie people may not want to waste the time or money going to see it again. It is so much cheaper to get the movie through netflix or blockbuster. Adding 40 minutes, will probaly extend the movie to be over-bearing long, but according to IMAX run time can only be 170 minutes and that should be fine.
ReplyDeletePreviously when Avatar was first released, they marketed well like any other movie. Im not sure if it was the marketing of the movie that hyped it so much or if people were just so interested in the movie. They definately had alot of advertising between commercials, toys, and advertisements. Now, I haven't heard anywhere that they are releasing the movie again which they should probaly advertise more if they expect a crowd like they recieved the first time around.
I feel that rereleasing Avatar is totally pointless. Though Avatar is a high grossing film from what i have seen it doesn't hang among the ranks of other more classic films. These other classic films in many cases were not rereleased only 8 months after their previous release. I think Avatar needs time to sink in with people so we can determine if it's a classic. I think re-releasing i too soon will bury it forever as cheesy.
ReplyDeleteI can honestly say I didn't see a single commercial for Avatar. I only watch nickelodeon and MLB TV. However the street buzz of Avatar has held its own as everyone talks about it. This in itself shows me how popular it was because everyone knows about it.
